There are always complaints about cleanliness in Malta, particularly in the tourist areas.
This is a photo taken on Saturday morning at the Ferries in Sliema, just in front of the War Memorial. The rubbish was already there on Thursday at 4 p.m. and, at the time of writing, Sunday at 5 p.m., it was still there. Every time you looked at the mounds they had grown.
Who is to control this situation? The rubbish is made up of empty boxes of merchandise from nearby shops and I dare say that most of them come from one particular outlet.
Sliema is the Mecca of tourism and every visitor at some point or another passes through this area. The rubbish mounds at this spot are a common occurrence and sometimes are not only left overnight but for three or four days in a row.
Where are the environmental wardens who are supposed to give tickets to those who throw a cigarette butt on the ground? Where is the local council? The fact that this rubbish continues to appear only shows nothing is being done about it.
