We have been told Air Malta is in dire straits and is in need of massive financial support to make it viable.

The government and the opposition, together with the trade unions, have a difficult task before them to find ways and means to save our national airline which has always provided us with a good and reliable service. Air Malta now needs further restructuring and, apparently as a consequence, the ratio of total employees per aircraft has to be reviewed to equate with those of other successful national airlines. Obviously, Air Malta needs also to review its frills and perks, such as the provision of free transport and free air tickets to a number of privileged persons.
