Arms and militaria under the hammer

Arms collectors have an event to look forward to on Sunday as over 200 lots will go under the hammer from 9 a.m. onwards during the third Obelisk arms and militaria auction.

Military and sporting arms as well as militaria, dating back to the 19th century to recent times, have been consigned by both local and foreign sources.

Highlights of the auction include a very rare Walther PP pistol issued to German NSKK leaders, a WWI Navy Luger, a Swedish m/40 Walther pistol, an American M1903A3 Springfield rifle which is in immaculate condition and three American Colt Python revolvers, among others.

Stephen Petroni will be the guest consultant.

The auction will be held at the State Room of the Palace Hotel in Sliema (entrance through Capua Palace).

Viewing starts this Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and continues on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. and on Sunday between 8 and 9 a.m.

This year the auction and viewing will also feature two attractions – an exhibition by the Maltese Silver Collection that will be held on the ground floor of the Capua Palace and a display of World War II arms, militaria and vehicles by the Battlefront Living History Group and the Association of Maltese Arms Collectors and Shooters (AMACS) that will be set up in the yard behind Capua Palace in Sliema.

After eight months of intensive work, craftsman Victor Azzopardi completed yet another masterpiece.

This stunning piece of silver weighs over 12kg of solid silver and measures approximately 3ft by 1.3ft. This sanctuary lamp will be on display at Palazzo Capua between Friday and Sunday.

The silver being showcased includes Maltese silver coffee pots, sugar bowls, trays, oil lamps, cutlery and odd pieces of fine jewellery.

The auction will be conducted by Pierre Grech Pillow of Obelisk Auctions.
