Finance Minister Tonio Fenech has responded to questions in parliament about domestic appliances and other facilities in the offices of the Enemalta CEO.

Replying to a question put last week by Labour MP Evarist Bartolo, the minister said that the administrative building included a dishwasher and a washing machine for use by the CEO's office.

Wherever refurbishment was made, the workers' kitchen was being improved. The kitchen used by the CEO's office was of the same level as the others.

Turning to other parts of Mr Bartolo's question, the minister said that workers were expected to work overtime when required. However the workers were not being asked to work overtime needlessly.

He said the fire escape on the fourth floor, near the CEO's office, led to the roof since the refurbishment of the second and third storeys of the building had not yet been completed. On completion, the fire escape would lead downwards.

The CCTV cameras on the floor of the CEO's office were at the same proportion as in other parts of the building. The system was being extended to all parts of the building.

Mr Bartolo had asked the minister to confirm that at the Enemalta head office, the floor which housed the chief executive's office had a fire escape leading up to the roof, instead of down to the lower floors. There was also a series of CCTV cameras to follow whoever entered the CEO's office.

The MP also asked if the office included a folding bed, an iron and ironing board, a washing machine, dish water, 'luxury kitchen' and other items normally associated with a residence, not an office. He asked if the CEO's secretariat staff were being expected to work irregular hours, including long hours in the evening in an unjustified manner.
