First Premier class win for Isolated

As expected, the Premier class race was the main attraction in the 53rd meeting of the season held at the Marsa racetrack yesterday.

This programme consisted of eleven races, all for trotters on a short distance of 2,140m. The Premier race was won by Isolated and driven by Noel Baldacchino.

Twelve horses lined up for the start of the Premier class race. It was German newcomer Obi Wan Kenobi (George Attard) the fastest horse after the official start of the race. This ten-year old opened a length lead from Shamin (Charles Camilleri) and Mcollie (Salvu Vella).

But 200m from the end, Isolated (Noel Baldacchino) stormed clear off the field to claim its first win of the season from Magnific As (Eric Bezzina) and Shamin.

Obi Wan Kenobi ended in fourth place with the winner completing the distance in an average time of 1.16.4” per kilometre.

In the only class Gold race of the day, Kejser Flamingo (Rodney Gatt) led almost all the way and obtained its second win of the season.

Lord Of Rush (Ludvic Ghigo), Race Ball (Tony Demanuele) and Marlow As (Kevin Sciberras) ended respectively in second, third and fourth place.

The racing card included three races for class Silver trotters.

In the first class Silver race it was Livi Cantona (Julian Farrugia) which surged ahead 350m to go. This Swedish six-year-old obtained its first win in Malta from Bete Saknussen (Claudio Refalo), Breeze Brodde (Mario Farrugia) and Charlie Smitt (Michael Ellul).

Noel Baldacchino put Noble Spirit infront midway through the final straight of the second Silver class race. This horse registered its third win of the year from Papa’s Dream (Toni Tanti), Tinto E (Brian Zammit) and Meadow Dancer (Shawn Portelli).

In the last class Silver race, it was Manifi Pointer (Charles Fava) which increased its pace along the last 500m. Manifi Pointer finished first ahead of Cocos Kaos (Jason Vassallo), Tirkita (Marco Tanti) and Lady Homely (Brian Zammit).

The next race meeting at the Marsa racetrack will be held on Friday with the first race for class Copper trotters starting at 6.30 p.m.
