The first Malta Taekwondo Spirit International Open, held recently at the St Martin’s College Gym, featured the participation of athletes from Greece, Cyprus, Luxembourg and Malta.
Organised by the Malta Taekwondo Federation (MTF), the three-day event also included a referees’ seminar that was conducted by international referee and director Panikos Loizou.
The activity had the backing of the European Taekwondo Union that was represented by Phivos Christou.
The seminar gave those present an ideal opportunity to review the latest international regulations. At the end of the proceedings, all officials were presented with a certificate.
The MTF now has five officially-certified kyorugi referees.
The highlight of the Malta International Open was reached when the participants took part in competitive bouts in different weight categories.
MTF officials, under the technical supervision of Loizou, controlled the bouts.
