Anastasi runs the show at Miżieb

Heavy wind hampers drivers

Joshua Anastasi dominated the scene at the sixth round of the Island Car Club hillclimb championship race which was held recently at Miżieb.

He led the timesheets from start to finish, going on to claim the day’s honours with Steve Zammit Cutajar filling the runners-up spot and Zach Zammit the third place on the podium.

Fifty-nine drivers took part and tackled one of the championship’s most technical circuits where the narrow stretches and varied curves tested participants to the limit.

The first runs brought about very little grip, in part due to the heavy wind that was blowing at Miżieb. This left its mark on some of the more powerful cars when speeding up the hill.

Vital seconds were won and lost in the straight past the bridge section, making it a potential race winner for those with enough bottle to keep their foot on the accelerator.

Among those who left a good impression was Joseph Cutajar. He steered his Escort Cosworth into the last corner with a vigour that impressed all present, posting a time of 42.736.

Cutajar was followed closely by Andrew Cassar in his Toyota Celica GT4.

The next race in the championship series will be held today at Ta’ Qali.
