The Europa Diary is a project funded by the European Commission and produced by Generation Europe Foundation. The diary is distributed free of charge to European students in secondary or post-secondary schools.

It is distributed to more than 3.5 million students all over Europe. In Malta, around 10,000 students already make use of this diary.

The Consumer and Competition Department is responsible for the Maltese version of this diary and is also responsible for its distribution in all local schools.

The Europa Diary is not only useful as a calendar for students to keep track of their school assignments, it is also a valuable classroom resource, as it contains information on important topics for young people, such as health and environmental issues, the EU and career opportunities.

Another main objective of this diary is to ensure students are aware of their rights as European citizens. The diary also helps young people think critically, as each page contains thought-provoking questions and inspirational quotes. It aims to transform European students into active citizens who are able to make informed decisions.

The content of the diary is changed every year and the subjects chosen reflect new developments and trends in social, economic and environmental spheres. The feedback provided by students and teachers who have already used Europa Diary is also taken into consideration when drafting new editions.

The role of the Consumer and Competition Department in this project is to ensure all local schools – state, private and Church – know about the Europa Diary and are also aware of when and how to order it.

Secondary and post-secondary schools will shortly receive an invitation from Generation Europe Foundation with information on the Europa Diary 2011-2012.

Orders for the next edition will be accepted until January 28 or until stocks last.

Schools deciding to order the diary should remember it is targeted for 15 to 17-year-old students, and they may order the diary for only one year group – either Form IV or Form V students, or for the first year of post-secondary schools.

Orders can be online at www.europadiary.eu or by filling in the form received from the Generation Europe Foundation and faxing it or posting it to the Consumer and Competition Department.

For more information and/or queries, schools can contact the Consumer and Competition Department on 2144 6285 or e-mail europadiaryccd@gov.mt.
