Hibernians surged into the second round of the U*Bet FA Trophy with a comfortable 4-0 win over Pietà Hotspurs.

The Paolites had to wait till the 41st minute before taking the lead.

Jean Paul Farrugia was first to Triston Caruana’s corner and his glancing header gave Pietà keeper Miguel Montfort no chance.

Hibs were now in control and they managed to double their lead on 62 minutes when from another Caruana corner-kick Jonathan Pearson unleashed a powerful volley that flew into the net.

Pietà were stunned and their hopes were all but ended on 72 minutes when Farrugia stabbed home Edward Herrera’s cross.

Paul McManus wrapped up Hibs’ victory four minutes from time when he dashed into the area before chipping the ball over the onrushing Montfort.
