Italianised names on the new passports (2)

An article and correspondence have appeared about the Italianised names on the new passports, such as Paolo, Lorenzo, Filippo etc., extracted verbatim from the baptismal records found in parishes.

I have five old passports, all with my name shown as George. However, my last one, issued in March 2002, shows me as Giorgio. When I picked it up more than eight years ago I asked if it could be endorsed with “also known as George”.

The issuing officer promptly obliged, and on the page Tagħrif Ieħor/Observations, he stamped and wrote: “The bearer is also known as George”. This solved part of the identity problem. So I suggest that, if possible, this should be done on the main data page of the passport, just by adding k/a (known as) or sive next to the Italianised name, for example Giorgio k/a George. This would solve the problem.
