Women’s bottoms have evolved from the peach to the tomato, potato, pear and nectarine, according to a retailer who has launched a range of dresses to suit each shape.

Asda revealed the Wonderbum party dresses after a survey found 85 per cent of women worried about the size and shape of their bottoms.

The poll found 55 per cent were at their most self-conscious when buying new clothes and 62 per cent said they did not know how to “dress their behind” this party season.

The study claimed modern day diets and exercise had altered the shape of women’s bottoms from the traditional peach to the four new shapes.

The tomato shape, the most common of the new categories, seen on 45 per cent of women, is “bigger, plumper, rounder and squishy to the touch”, the retailer said, while the “less fortunate” potato shape, suffered by 30 per cent of women, is wide, long and lumpy.

The pear shape is narrower at the top and almost twice the size at the fullest part of the behind, and the nectarine is “close to the cartoonesque derriere perfection of two bowling balls pushed together”.

Asda added: “Unfortunately, this is a rare bottom and it’s not often seen strutting down the high street with only 10 per cent claiming to own this perfect derriere.”

A company spokesman said: “Women should celebrate their shapes this Christmas. We’ve designed a range of gorgeous party dresses to suit every shape and size.

“The nation’s bottoms will shine on the dance floor this Christmas whether in a floor-length maxi dress or our structured black lace dress.”
