A man who allegedly hit his wife in the face with a stool and broke her nose was yesterday released on bail after the court was told he would be living with his parents for the duration of the court case.
Christopher Cardona, 49, of Birkirkara, (not the Labour MP) denied seriously injuring his wife and threatening her in a domestic argument which broke out on Tuesday afternoon.
What started out as an ordinary argument between the couple quickly escalated into a violent fight and the woman was hit with a stool, sources said.
Defence lawyer Edward Zammit Lewis told the court his client had made arrangements to live with his parents and move out of the matrimonial home for the duration of the court case.
Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia said that while he could confirm that Mr Cardona’s parents have allowed him to live with them, he objected to bail being given based on the seriousness of the charges.
Magistrate Doreen Clarke granted Mr Cardona bail against a personal guarantee of €3,000 and a deposit of €500.
