A worker was injured at the Marsa power station when a filter valve exploded, releasing a quantity of oil on the ground and into the sea yesterday, according to Enemalta.

The corporation said the incident happened at 5 a.m. and the leakage was immediately stopped.

The worker suffered light injuries and was hospitalised. Another was being treated for shock.

Enemalta employees together with workers from Malta Transport and the Civil Protection Department were engaged in an operation to clean up the oil dispersed during the incident.

Power supply was temporarily suspended to some areas between 5.15 and 6.30 a.m. as a consequence.
