I tend to agree with Mr. Cachia. Before we consider taking our kids to the Family Park and the facilities proposed, the residents and mostly parents should be assured that the area is safe and that no health hazards from the 'impjant taz-zibel u l-produzzjoni tal-gass' exists. This is the most important thing of it all. If Mr. Spiteri wants to take his kids a few metres away from the Waste plant where methane gas is to be produced, be free to do so. I for one am not prepared to follow his example. This is what our council should insist with WasteServ and the government before thinking of the family park. I followed the Sant' Antnin Waste Treatment Plant controversy for the last years and I know that the Committee who dealt with this subject is right. The environmental health studies were not carried out and the first priority for our council should be that this study be implemented as stipulated by MEPA. Other concern for these facilities are futile. If our Council is to ignore this important issue, we will have no option but to keep the council legally responsible for future damages.

Mr. Albert Spiteri this is news for us residents that no football facilities are planned for the Family Park next to the obnoxious industry that of the Sant’ Antnin recycling plant. In fact we residents do not know sod all about what is happening regarding this park. We expected the Marsaskala council to keep us abreast with this development. Nonetheless I am not surprised for with this arrogant council everything is kept hush-hush, like in the case of the yacht marina and the caravan site at Zonqor Point area. Mr. Spiteri before you start intoducing our kids to this park I suggest that first and foremost it is made safe now that soon it will start generating bio-gas knowing the two injured in yesterday's Marsa power station explosion and not least the contested health studies still not carried out. This important study should be commissioned and the findings made known to the public otherwise you can stuff your football ground together with the park. Our main concern is the health of our kids not what facilities are planned in the family park. That is secondary....

@ J. Cachia - I happen to read these blogs just now. I wonder exactly where you stand Mr. J. Cachia ON THE MATTER OF WHAT'S BEST FOR MARSASKALA AND ITS KIDS. Comparing Marsa with Marsaskala and rambling off about the local council, caravan sites etc etc, is one fine way for showing yourself off as either a dishonest bugger or an incompetent ignoramus, or both!
My agenda is sport in general and football in particular! What is your agenda MR J CACHIA!?! I'M HUNDRED PER CENT POSITIVE THAT A FOOTBALL PITCH FOR MARSASKALA IS GOOD FOR MARSASKALA KIDS, MOST OF WHOM HAPPEN TO LOVE FOOTBALL!
Try pushing government into providing Marsaskala with a decent full-size football pitch, no matter where within Marsaskala territory. I'll be Full Square behind you!
Some people's priorities, interests and motivations do not include family parks, kids and sports - THEY LIE ELSEWHERE DEAR MR. J. CACHIA!! MAKE AN EFFORT, BE POSITIVE FOR A CHANGE - THINK UP AND SUGGEST AN ALTERNATE SITE (WITHIN MARSASKALA OF COURSE)!!
POLITICS DO NOT FEATURE ANYWHERE WITHIN MARSASKALA KIDS' INTERESTS - A DECENT FOOTBALL PITCH DOES!

WE MARSASKALA RESIDENTS KNOW THAT this family park will not include a decent full-size football pitch. Government IGNORES that Marsaskala is a KIDS’ TOWN, BY FAR the fastest growing locality in all of Malta AND A STRONG ATTRACTION FOR NEW YOUNG COUPLES.
Over 90% of Malta’s (and Marsaskala’s) youths and kids play football as their main sport.
Odious or not, one cannot fail compare how things are with other localities. With Marsaskala parish church as centre, within a two-mile radius one finds not one football pitch. Compare this situation with that of some localities, example Pembroke, where within a half-a-mile from the Pembroke clock-tower, one finds 3 or 4 full-size pitches, several smaller ones, multi-disciple pitches, basketball courts etc etc and etc.
Marsaskala is the worst social dumping area in all of Malta and Gozo. We have become cursed with WasteServ and those tuna fish farms.
Government should realize it cannot go on forever pulling people’s legs with empty talk. DO SOMETHING; INCLUDE A DECENT FULL-SIZE FOOTBALL PITCH IN THIS FAMILY PARK! WE PAY OUR TAXES, VAT, DUTIES AND WHATEVER JUST AS MUCH AS EVERYBODY ELSE ON THIS BLESSED REPUBLIC! OUR KIDS HAVE A RIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHTLY THEIRS!
