The bus owners' association today called off the bus strike on the Mater Dei Hospital route after it received a part-payment for funds owed to it from Transport Malta.

The indefinite strike was to have started tomorrow.

President Victor Spiteri said this morning that the association was owned a total of €1.5 million, dating back to 2008/2009.

He confirmed this afternoon that a part-payment had been received and a promise had been made that talks on the remainder would be concluded by the end of this month.

A spokesman for Transport Malta said yesterday that payments had been delayed by verifications and communications issues between various departments.
