I wonder what is happening to the reorganisation of the ferries that were supposed to start operating between the Three Cities and Valletta.

Of course, ideally the government should use the existing dgħajsa (the Maltese boat) which has dawned colourfully for well over 100 years. However, shamefully, these seaborne means of transport are becoming rather rare. While places like Venice look after their prized gondolas, here we seem to enjoy destroying our heritage whenever the chance arises. There are a handful of boatmen who persevere, working hard with very little recompense.

Last year, I had spotted a couple of speedboat-type craft I believe were going to be used in the well-publicised service. I hate to point out this much-vaunted service has not come to fruition.

One of the main reasons that made me write to highlight this lack of transport across the Grand Harbour is the fact that the roads in Malta are absolutely gridlocked every morning, especially around Marsa, mainly with traffic leaving the Three Cities, much of which makes its way towards Valletta.

Would it not be ideal if the ministry responsible actually brought into operation whatever plans were published many months ago. This would surely elevate the horrendous traffic problems being faced every morning.
