Aldo Micallef Grimaud, one of Malta's best known artists, passed away today, aged 85.

A student of Vincent Apap, Edward Caruana Dingli and Robert Caruana Dingli, Mr Micallef Grimaud studied in Malta and abroad and was involved in painting from his early youth.

His works ranged from many Church dome paintings to stamp designs and theatre stage scenery.

His paintings included still-life and landscapes although he was strongest in portraiture.

Mr Micallef Grimaud was also a noted tenor.

He was married to Mariuccia and had a son (Mario Ivan) and two daughters (Nadine and Glorian).
