Around 20 pine trees have been stolen from the Karl Chircop Memorial Grove in Sta Luċija, the second such theft in 18 months.
The council condemned the theft in a statement, saying whoever stole the trees failed to realise the significance of the grove.
The grove was inaugurated in April last year and within two months it had already been targeted by vandals who stole around 10 saplings, including some planted by Labour leader Joseph Muscat, Dr Chircop’s wife Adriana and his three children.
The council said it had reported the theft to the police who were investigating.
Dr Chircop, a Labour MP and medical doctor, passed away at the age of 43 in October of 2008 after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
