The MUT protested today that revised allowances for the teaching grades had not been given out with the latest salary, despite what was agreed with the government in August after two years of expectation.

The union said the government had been given sufficient time to issue the allowances, and unless the allowances featured in the next pay, an industrial dispute would be declared.

The union also warned the authorities not to take teachers for granted.

The allowances vary according to the salary scales of the teachers.

In a statement in the evening, the Education Ministry said the inputting of the new allowances into the pay records of over 5,000 teachers and other staff was complex, but all would have received their allowance by their next pay.
