The European Consumer Centre (Malta) recently published a short brochure offering practical advice to the public, in particular to tourists on holiday in Malta, about the purchase of timeshare and similar products. The leaflet, ‘Common Sense Guide to Buying Timeshare and Similar Products’ underlines the most important aspects a consumer needs to know when approached with an offer leading to the purchase of a timeshare or a similar agreement.
Most importantly, apart from helping consumers identify individuals in the street who are promoting the purchase of timeshare or holiday agreements, the leaflet highlights the consumer’s rights during the presentation with the holiday club operator. Since timeshare or holiday club agreements are fairly specific in nature, the leaflet helps consumers to identify the salient features they need to look out for in the contract before signing, such as the actual price and any additional fees, and also cancellation rights.
