More than 2.2 million people have visited the Malta pavillion at the Shanghai Expo, which has just closed after six months.
Such an exposure provided an ideal opportunity to promote Malta and enhance the possibility of increased visits from the Chinese market for leisure or business purposes.
Visitors’ experience of Malta was not only audio-visual, as Maltese foods and beverages were served by Cafe Jubilee, the local franchise which operated a café at the pavilion. This little corner of Malta proved to be popular even among staff working at the Expo, who often met there after working hours.
The lion’s share of the record 72 million visitors were ordinary Chinese people from around the country, who often had to queue for hours to walk into some of the most popular pavillions.
The Shanghai Expo, which brought together 246 participating countries and international organisations in a single global village, closed last weekend with a spectacular celebration which comprised performances, parades and forums.
The Shanghai Expo will be remembered for the scientific innovation that was brought to the world’s attention as a means of solving urban problems in line with the theme ‘Better City, Better Life’.
