A Libyan who tried to export 136 song birds from Malta to Libya was today given a 10-month jail term suspended to three years and fined €699 euros.

Abdaljabar Alaadden Musban, 30, who lives in St Paul’s Bay, had tried to take the song birds out of Malta in six small cardboard boxes. The boxes, surrounded by frozen seafood packets, were packed in two bags.

The man pleaded guilty to attempting to export the birds not according to regulations and maltreating animals.
