Circus is coming to town...to stay

The man behind plans for Malta’s first permanent circus, Chris Dingli.

The circus is not only coming to town but may soon be here for good, as plans have reached the final stages for Malta to have its very own collection of all the big top favourites.

Well, almost all: Chris Dingli, the founder of the new circus, promises a “fully professional circus, featuring world-class acts and absolutely no animals”.

An actor himself, Mr Dingli realised there was nothing quite like a circus encompassing varied acts in Malta and set the ball rolling to create a show.

He has gathered a small team assisted by British circus expert Verena Cornwall and the producers are now currently looking for a wide range of Maltese potential performers, from swimmers and water polo players to composers and clowns.

They are also looking for suitable premises in which to house the circus since none of the current venues are appropriate. Once that is sorted out, acts could then be sourced, Mr Dingli said.

Ms Cornwall will be speaking at a public meeting next Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the music room at St James Cavalier, Valletta for anyone who may be interested in becoming involved.

Those unable to attend the meeting can still register their interest in the project by sending an e-mail to chris@maltacircus.com.

You can have as many contortionists as you like, seeing Parliament is full of them.

No that's not a circus...that's a theatrical tragicomedy act with no ending!

Congratulations on your NO ANIMAL CIRCUS! It is possible to have a circus where no animals are ill treated and may your initiative succeed. God's creatures are not meant to be made a show of. The place of wild animals is in their natural habitat!
