As far as I am concerned Air Malta used to operate to Linate airport. I do not know why this fuss competting in a city of red sea where Alitalia can do better than Air Malta. it is better for Air Malta to search for blue ocean seas.

when low cost airlines started operating to malta, people who never used were criticising them because generally they operate to secondary airports.
but generally these airports are much more practical and fast, with less congestion on the access roads. they are ideal especially for those taking a bus or a rental car
if you fly into a main airport, one wastes a lot of time in queues, it still generally takes you an hour to get into the city paying expensive taxi/ train fares. airport hotels near main airports are also much more expensive.
when you get used to using small airports, you hate travelling to big airports such as london heathrow

Why is it that each time I access the Air Malta web site to attempt a booking it dies out on me? I am, just now, trying to check out the price for the Linate destination and, first the 'select airport' drop-down menu fails to engage and when it does, and I manage to fit in my desired airports and dates, it takes ages to move on to the next page only to tell me Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
Surely something is wrong with the software as I've tried out lots of other airlines' websites and get through first time. Airmalta.com has had this bug for ages and nobody has seen to it. Perhaps it's a syndrome of bigger things at large in the company.

@ Renald Galea I just checked the website myself for a flight to Milan from 2 Dec to 11 Dec and it is works perfectly. I got 2 tickets to Milan inclusive of all charges at EUR78.36 and i was done within a matter of minutes.

I believe Milan Orio Al Serio (Bergamo) would have been a much better choice. Its just outside Milan (to the east) and provides a better connection also to travellers to the north east without the daily bustle of the Milan traffic. Perhaps with even lower landing fees for the airline, translating into an even lower airfare for the passengers too.

The low cost airline which operates from Malta to Malpensa is still cheaper than this offer if you book or don't in advance taxes included.

May this new route prove beneficial to our struggling national carrier Air Malta. I also wish that the new restructuring of Air Malta, a complete success. Well done and with sincere very best wishes to all who work and manage the company. May it continue to fly the Maltese Cross across the skies.

But is Linate the second airport of Milan? So this is a regression? And we are proud that Airmalta will land in the secondary airport instead of the main one? Pajjiz tal-mickey ........

AirMalta still flys to Malpensa, which is the major airport in Milan. So this is actually an improvement not a regression.

it may be the second airport, but rather than have to do an hour of coach from central milan to the airport, from Linate you will need only around 20 minutes, and a taxi will cost you 50% less. The sunday evening return flight is also a good idea.

Linate is the number 1 business airport in the whole of Italy. It is a true pride to see our national carriers flown into Linate. But then I galea, everyone knows your 'gloom and doom' comments.

Linate is better than Malpensa . A taxi or bus ride to the city centre takes less than 20 minutes. This airport is mainly used for domestic and European short-haul flights. It provides excellent land connection with Milan as well as other places of interest in Italy. Linate Airport is complimented with a bus service that goes straight to the Central Railway Station of Milan allowing for swifter connections to various areas within the region and the rest of the country.

@ I galea
Your negative approach to anything that is happening in Malta is astounding.
Linate Airport is 8km away from the city centre (Malpensa is 40km). Linate has connections to a number of other major airports and is well serviced by public transport, cars and taxis.

Linate is closer to Milan. It is the actual Milan airport.
Malpensa is on the outskirts (l/o Varese)
It is not a regression. It is progress.
