The owners of a block of flats in Msida are calling on the government to repair a dangerous boundary wall they say risks collapsing onto traffic going through the busy Regional Road thoroughfare.

Francis Caruana and another 13 Gozitan owners of Mary Vale Court in Msida filed a judicial protest claiming the wall between their property and the Regional Road lane leading to Msida Circus was in a “disastrous state” and “dangerously” risked collapsing.

The protest was filed in the Gozo court against Transport Malta, the Infrastructure Ministry and the Police Commissioner.

The owners said the wall was built by the government through the Works Department when the level of Regional Road was lowered by several metres. It was the government’s responsibility to keep the wall well-maintained but this was not being done, the protest said.

The owners said they were worried about the possible damage to their property but were more “preoccupied” with the tragedy that would take place if the wall collapsed onto Regional Road.

They said they had already informed the authorities in writing about the wall, drawing attention to the responsibility of the authorities and calling on them to take action.

One of the owners tried to file a report at the Msida police station and asked for police action on August 8 but officers insisted they did not interfere in such situations, the protest said.

The owners called on the authorities to take the required safety measures and are holding them responsible for any damages.
