The team from Icon, the web solutions specialist, was invited to speak at a practical workshop on tapping tourism grants, organised by advisory firm Dconsulta
The seminar focused on the key areas that businesses should consider when applying for the Grant Scheme for Tourism Projects by Enterprises (2007-2013), managed by the Tourism and Sustainable Development Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister.
It directs funds towards the economic development of the tourism sector. Sustainable projects should strengthen Malta’s competitive advantage in tourism, increase the use of ICT, encourage best environmental practices as well as promote innovation in the industry.
Icon, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, is no stranger to the tourism industry. One of its most recent products, an end-to-end solution, is designed to cater for hotels, tour operators, car rental companies and cruises.
Seasoned business executives Christine Falzon and Jeremy Dingli, who have an aggregate 20 years’ experience in the international tourism sector, represented the company.
With the Internet rapidly transforming the way business is conducted, investing in ICT at this time is one of the key priorities for any company. Through a presentation about the Internet, Icon highlighted how this channel can be used to improve business performance.
Ideas for investment in the ICT sector included social marketing, search engine optimisation, search engine marketing, email marketing and new web project developments, including e-commerce. Dconsulta chief executive officer Michael Debono emphasised investment in ICT was considered highly favourably by the evaluation committee.
Businesses examining the possibility of an ICT boost and requiring a better understanding of EU Funding opportunities may book their web clinic at Icon’s Open Day on November 17 on Facebook or LinkedIn. More information can be found at http://10.icon.com.mt .
