Obituary

STIVALA. On November 2, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARIANNE of Sta Luċija, aged 50, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Joe, her son Steven and his girlfriend Maressa, her mother Carrie, her father Freddie, her sister Irene and her husband Joe, her brothers David and his wife Rose, Michael and his wife Christine, her sister Doreen and her husband Conrad, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30 p.m. for Sta Luċija parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Safi cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Award for voluntary work

The life of St Nicholas from Tolentino, who gained a reputation as a preacher and confessor, is being re-enacted on Saturday at St Nicholas Hall, Lampuka Street, Tarxien, at 7.30 p.m.

Dame Ruth Sammut Casingena and her studio will take part in the play together with the San Damjan Choir, directed by James Perry and Therese Vella. The script is by Marlon Chircop.

The Augustinian Friars of Tarxien will be hosting their national annual award, Premju San Nikola minn Tolentino. The award shows appreciation and promotes people who give their time and service on a voluntary basis to the community, to an organisation or to a philanthropic cause. Besides a trophy, the winner will receive a €500 gift, which will be handed over to the organisation he or she represents.

Computer technician course

The Kalkara council is organising two courses leading to CompTIA A+ and the CompTIA Network + respectively. The computer technician course (CompTIA A+) will start in mid-November. Sliema bazaar

A bazaar in aid of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sliema will be held between Friday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. near the Padova Hall, close to the Sacro Cuor parish church.

Martial arts film

The Malta-China Friendship Society will be screening a film on martial arts, which dramatises the life story of Ip Man, wushu teacher who was Bruce Lee’s mentor. He was born in 1893 and died in 1972.

The film will be screened on November 26 at 7 p.m. at the Chinese Cultural Centre, Valletta. Those interested in viewing the film can inform the administrative secretary, Doreen Sammut, by telephone or SMS on 9948 7218 or via e-mail at [email protected].

Naxxar bazaar

There will be a bazaar at the Sgħajtar pastoral centre, Naxxar, tomorrow and Friday between 4 and 7.30 p.m. and on Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon and 4 to 8 p.m.
