Shame on all who have ridiculed the status the Diocese is working on for Dun Mikiel. He was my cousin and a wonderful example to all. To judge him on this one paragraph biography is ridiclous. To belittle it to a 'us verses them' mentality between Malta & Gozo is the most childish thing l have read in a long time. I can imagine San Gorg Preca looking down and shaking his head in disbelief at his fellow countrymen. Last l looked both were living under the same flag!!!! It's sad to see that the Maltese mentality has not changed and doesn't look like anytime soon. Very, very sad......

To all those who passed a negative comment - how dare you pass these kind of comments when you did not know the person, what kind of life he lived. Luckily I am one of the persons who was lucky enough to know him. He did not only work locally buy even abroad doing mission work. And its clearly not the case of "keeping up with the Joneses" like it was stated. Before you pass more ridiculous comments do some research work to see what kind of life this priest lead. He did definitely much more then is stated in this article, much much more.

Elizabeth, don't worry about the negative comments! They are only doing it because they do not share your faith. There has been lots of mudslinging at Mother Theresa lately and indeed Newman faced various unfounded accusations by those who were out to discredit him. But the Jesus warned that, just as he had suffered for the cause of right, so would others suffer in his name and said also that they would be blessed.

Saints are redundant. What a waste of time ,money and zeal when it could all be put to better use.

First and foeremost such a process should begin from going to the past local media and examine his contributions to it and the reactions it generated.

Judging from his resume' there are millions of priests like him...except that he was spiritual director of Nadur Youngsters Football Club. Gozo wants its own saint after San Gorg Preca. Let's not deny them their little plearures.

How could you ever judge when you don't even know the person? Why do you have to judge because he was from Gozo? Are you serious?

reading your comment makes me think that you definitely never met Dun Mikiel Attard and if you met him than it's really worse.

Some while ago a friend asked me: "but does'nt a bridge or tunnel or whatever link will benefit only gozitans? It is silly for you to expect the maltese to be in favour of this link".
Well, letting a large section of the population to remain in hiding, led by conservatives who shun change has its price as well in more ways than one realizes. Now you're witnessing lately in what state of mind and what priorities some leaders in Gozo have. So next time you have the chance, help those who want to come out and move forward, and not those who want to remain secluded and isolated.

Very commendable initiative on the part of the Gozitan church. However will we be seeing action on the Gozitan priests suspected of sexual abuse in Gozo and elsewhere or is this just an attempt to compete with Malta on the number of Saints ?

From what I read here, this priest may have lived a holy but not necessarily a heroic life. Is this the way for the diocese of Gozo to get over the bad publicity surrounding clerical abuse? I wonder!

I don't believe it! Clearly a Gozitan case of "keeping up with the Joneses".
