Five accused of threatening to kill woman
Five people were yesterday granted bail after pleading not guilty to holding a woman against her will and threatening to kill her.
The accused were Reno Azzopardi, 26, Carmelo Cutajar, 62, Carmel Galea, 72, Jesmond Haidon, 39 and Joanne Ellul, 32, all of Cospicua. They were also charged with disturbing the peace and swearing in public.
The person they are accused of harassing and threatening is Rita Agius from Kalkara.
Four of the accused, excluding Ms Ellul, were also charged with holding Richard “Rakela” Spiteri from Valletta against her will.
Mr Azzopardi was also charged with carrying a weapon and threatening to kill both captives.
The accused were granted bail on personal guarantees of €5,000.

Although innocent until proven guilty, I think it unwise to let these people out on bail because they can intimidate the victim, as these are very serious charges.
Malta always seems soft on violent crime to me, it seems that threats and intimidation are the name of the game in Malta, and might is right.
