A street New Year’s Eve party is being organised by the Floriana council for the second consecutive year.
The council organised the first public free New Year’s Eve party last year in St Anne’s Street. It had estimated a turnout of around 10,000 people but the number of people who attended fell short of the council’s expectations.
But mayor Nigel Holland still believes the party was a success.
He told the media this morning that it was the first such event organised by his council, which was surprised and very satisfied with the turnout.
“We received very positive feedback last year and we are putting together all the elements to hold another party,” Mr Holland said.
There will be a main stage with dancers, singers and bands entertaining the crowd.
The event is aimed for the whole family.
“We are trying to reach out to everyone,” he said.
Mr Holland said he was confident that people would attend the party
“It is hard for the whole family to go out on New Year’s Eve – especially during a recession, so I think many people will come,” he said.
