I refer to the news item Monday’s Rainfall Heaviest In 70 Years (October 27).

I feel that the Met. Office might have missed a very heavy storm and rainfall that occurred in 1964 or 1965. I remember the event well as on that particular day I had been recording the Quiz Madwar Malta in Siġġiewi. On my return to Floriana with my wife and two small children, plus Leli Debattista, we found extensive floods in Żebbuġ, Qormi, Marsa, etc.

The area known as the racecourse was completely flooded and one boy was drowned and carried with the floods. I myself was caught in deep water but some good person helped to pull the car out. This means that I am quoting from experience.

It was eventually recorded that the station in Argotti Gardens in Floriana had registered a record eight inches (200 mm) in one single hour.

It was this time of year.

I am sure that some research will confirm what I am reporting above as all this was extensively reported in The Times of Malta.
