Two of the largest employers on the island - Corinthia Group and Vassallo Group, have joined forces to create a high quality-oriented catering company specialising in outside catering to the local market.

The new company, Catermax, will be offering creative and distinguished outside catering tapping into the conference and incentive market, weddings and high profile events and functions.

Catermax’s team of high profile professionals in the catering industry is led by Edward D’Alessandro, who has 22 years experience in the business with other leading operators.

Mr D’Alessandro has been appointed chief executive of Catermax and is jointly supported by Andrea Lattughi and Jose Da Silva, who both have enormous experience in events catering.

Mr Lattughi offers a wealth of experience in the outside catering sector and has been responsible for the successful outside catering division of Corinthia Group for the past 25 years.

Mr Da Silva was assistant to the director of operations, sales and marketing of Island Caterers Ltd for 14 years and brings with him a wealth of experience in the operating side of the business.

The Corinthia Group’s outside catering division has been running successfully for 40 years.

Vassallo Group, until recently a 50 per cent shareholder in another leading operator, has a wealth of 22 years experience in outside catering.

Last year, the Vassallo Group set up Catergroup, which includes Cateressence, Catermeals and now Catermax – the joint-venture with the Corinthia Group. Catermax will now take over and consolidate all the outside catering business of the two groups of companies, already making Catermax the strongest catering player on the market.

Catermax is carefully selecting the best exclusive venues, including two new purposely built high-end state of the art halls to be launched in mid 2011, a project entrusted to a team of renowned architects and designers.

“Moreover we have also carefully restored and renovated the scheduled Villa Alhambra in Sliema which will also be exclusive to our clients,” said Mr D’Alessandro.

Other venues include Corinthia Hotel St. George’s Bay, Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa and Castello Zammitello.

Catermax’s offices are situated at The Landmark in Qormi which over the coming months will be turned into a state-of-the art multi-purpose project. Catermax will also be investing heavily in marketing the company on an international level so as to attract multi-national companies to hold more of their larger conferences on the island.
