I refer to Tony Gatt’s letter regarding the telephone service in Marsascala, particularly the Siberia side (October 20). I have been reporting a fault on my mother’s telephone line for at least five years. They do come promptly to fix it but a few days later the fault is still there.

The problem is that frequently the telephone line is either dead for a while, ringing engaged or ringing with no one answering when I know my mother is at home. Since she is an elderly person and has a Telecare system this is quite serious and, very often, when I cannot get through to her on the phone I would have to rush over to make sure she is fine. Obviously, in an emergency, if she needs to use the Telecare and the line is mulfunctioning this is quite impossible.

The telephone system in this area seems to be just being patched up – and unsatisfactorily at that – instead of a complete overhaul being done to find out what the real problem is.

As Mr Gatt said, in this day and age of hi-tech, it should not take a genius to solve this mystery!
