Nationalist Party councillor Frans Catania resigned from his post at the Żabbar local council after he was investigated in connection with his work at Transport Malta.

Mr Catania is being investigated on allegations of bribery connected with the issuing of licences. He resigned from all his posts and the party’s internal structures, the PN said.

The PN reiterated it expected the highest moral and ethical standards from representatives elected on its behalf. When contacted, Mr Catania refused to comment. He is expected to be succeeded by Kevin Plumpton, the only non-elected PN candidate on the council, which has a Labour majority.

Mr Catania is the sixth Nationalist councillor to resign over the past few months.
