Oh come one lady. Have you never seen Italian TV so that you can see for yourself the misery of foreign countries when rains come down heavily? Is it the infrastructure? Italy is a first class country, yet these things happen, as in Germany, France and UK. Yes blame it on the weather. not on the infrastructure. Has we no solid infrastructure the damage would have been far more than you have seen. Or have you conveniently forgotten the maltempata of 79?

Iva Sur Farrugia anke fuq maltempata ndahhlu l-politka?? l-maltempata ta` l-1979 tibqa mfakkra ghax kellna l-izvintura li kellna xi mwiet, dawn mietu fir-residenzi privati taghhom jew ghax tkaxkru ma l-ilmijiet mhux habba l-infrastruttura tal-Gvern. Imbaghad semmejt l-Italja, jekk iccedi muntanja habba l-ilmijiet zgur mhux tort tal-Gvern, forsi forsi ta` l-ispekulaturi li jkunu bnew fil-widien u tal-Comune li jhallu kollox ghaddej ghal ragunijiet oskuri.

Marija tkellmet tajjeb, nafu fejn jaghmel l-ilma, dejjem l-istess postijiet, mill-1979 l'hawn ghaddew terz ta` seklu, u xorta ghadna ma ghamilna xejn. Ghaliex nistennew l-ilmijiet ta` Malta kollha jaslu sa Hal-Qormi jew Birkirkara minghajr ma naghmlu xejn biex nilqu parti minnu qabel? U mhatra li hafna culverts kienu mizduda minkejja t-theddida ta` gherien? Min kien responsabbli ji dawn jitnaddfu jekk dan ma sarx?

Australia is a first class country, but you should have been here last week. Three days of heavy non stop rain. New roads have to be reaped up and has to be redone. Thank God no one was killed. This happen any where, we pray for rain and when it comes, we say enough is enough. Water come into my house but not as bad as the house next door. Just thank your lucky star that you are still alive to start again.

Water culverts require REGULAR cleaning and not just once a year. Is there any doubt, for example, that all culverts should be inspected and cleared of all debris as soon as possible after this storm? And after any other storm actually!
