Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this evening that the Budget 2001 would consolidate what had been achieved this year, when jobs were protected and new ones were created.

The Budget for next year, he said, was also seeing continued investment in education, health, the environment , the infrastructure and social services.

The Budget for next year would strengthen government's financial position while maintaining social and economic development, Dr Gonzi said.
