Accomplished percussion player Renzo Spiteri will be performing with the Idan Raichel Project from Israel to present a new, energy-packed live concert being held at Hilton Malta on Sunday.
The concert, which is being organised by and held in aid of the voluntary organisation Pamper the World, will merge Mr Spiteri’s characteristic musical versatility and passion for cross-cultural concerts with the project’s enchanting blend of African, Latin American, Caribbean and Middle Eastern sounds and upbeat rhythms. It has also been selected as a featured event in the Daniel Pearl World Music Days.
Renowned as the local percussionist who can speak multiple languages with his hands, Mr Spiteri collaborates on a stunning number of projects and spends a long time touring the world. His work leads him in multiple directions, working on international music projects that undertake to bring together a wide range of musicians, as well as small projects where there is a spirit of enquiry, seeking to discover how variant rhythms work together.
The Idan Raichel Project burst onto Israel’s music scene in 2002, changing the face of Israeli popular music and offering a message of love and tolerance that resonated strongly in a region of the world where headlines are too often dominated by conflict. Led by pianist and producer Idan Raichel, the project consists of a seven-piece band with three lead vocalists whose members hail from countries ranging from Israel to Yemen and Ethiopia.
