Christopher Newberry has been appointed general manager of the Corinthia Hotel Khartoum - also known as the Burj Al Fateh.

From an early career with Hilton International as executive assistant manager of the London Hilton on Park Lane, Mr Newberry was promoted to the position of general manager of the Madagascar Hilton and then moved on to the opening of the Yaoundé Hilton in the Cameroon in a similar position.

As one of the first general managers for Disney, Mr Newberry was highly successful in the early days of the famous Paris theme park and then joined Kempinski, where he was general manager of hotels in Bombay and Beijing. In the latter, he also ran the Crowne Plaza and later the Crowne Plaza in Jinan. After a short period of time in a private enterprise he joined the Aga Khan Development Network as general manager of their property in Kabul, the Serena Hotel.

Mr Newberry’s latest position before joining Corinthia Hotels was that of general manager of The Leela Kempinski in Mumbai, India.
