We had written to the Sliema local council last May requesting action to eliminate pigeons as their droppings cause disease and infections apart from the fact that nobody enjoys muck on one’s person. No action whatsoever was taken and we have had to endure another summer with our windows closed and muck on our streets, cars, balconies and our person, apart from the unending sound of their gurgling.
We therefore understand the angst and frustration of the residents of Balluta whose verandas have been particularly targeted.
The least the St Julians and Sliema councils should do until such time as they tackle the elimination of these disease carriers is to ensure our streets are cleaned on a daily basis with power washers. By their inaction and indifference the councils are failing in their duties to respond to health threats and are primarily responsible for any damages in case of accidents as a result of slipping and a host of other similar or related consequences.
My exhortation to all councils in relation to pigeon, cat, dog and rat problems is: Do not mess around with our health, please.
