Activities to mark the centenary since the building of the chapel at St Vincent De Paul Home took an unusual angle this morning, when Mass was held there for nine persons who are older than the building.

All nine are residents of the home - which is a record in itself.

Among them was Paola-born Maria Concetta Ascolese, who at 105 is believed to be the oldest person in Malta.

The activity was organised by the hospital management.

Those present were Maria Caruana, Carmela Gauci, Maria Sacco and Polly Vella, who are all 100 years old, Natalizia Vella, who is 101, Lucia Cacciatolo and Paola Stafrace, 102, Joan Zammit, 103 and Maria Concetta Ascolese.

Many were accompanied by their relatives.

Another two centenarians passed away in the past few weeks.

A small party was held after the Mass.
