A Ħamrun Spartans supporter was yesterday banned from all football grounds for a year after he jumped over a barrier and ran onto the pitch during a match on Sunday.
Sandro Cauchi, 36, from Ħamrun, then ran back and climbed over a gate, trying to avoid police officers who had run after him onto the pitch during a Ħamrun-Floriana clash.
During yesterday’s arraignment, Mr Cauchi pleaded guilty to disobeying police orders, breaching the public peace and threatening a number of people.
After taking into consideration his early guilty plea, Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona fined him €250 and banned him from football grounds for a year.
Lawyers José Herrera and Veronique Dalli appeared for the man.
