I read with amazement the nonsense written by Bill Andrews about drivers over 70. It may surprise him to know we are called on from time to time to pass a medical to renew our licence.
I would put it to him that the problem drivers are the 18-to 24-year-old boy racers who have no idea how to drive a vehicle within its limits. I would query the standard of instruction.
I am over 70 and still driving. I know my limitations, having been UK police-trained when the UK police driving was the best in the world. I was also a police driving examiner in the Colonial Police, so have studied driving carefully.
One cannot just arbitrarily set an age limit on driving. It is down to training and experience.
