I refer to Michael Vella’s letter entitled Enough Is Enough: Time To Control Rowdy Students (October 14).

I have been working near Mr Vella’s residence for the last 10 years as a night receptionist. I can humbly vow that Mr Vella is exaggerating. The problem is that there are people who are being arrogant with students. These students are the backbone of Maltese economy. If we tolerate and respect them, some fine day they may come back as tourists with their families. This is what they promise me... because I respect them and treat them as human beings. The Spanish, like all young people, are a bit noisy... but they have hearts of gold.

A student Mr Vella might be referring to with regard to insults and challenges, sent me an e-mail apologising to me and all the neighbours for his misbehaviour. Regarding the Sliema local council, I always found its members very helpful and calling them “impotent” demonstrates the wrong attitude by Mr Vella.

The Sliema police too are always very helpful and when I phone they always answer.

Yes, indeed, enough is enough. It is time to grow up.
