Joseph Borg recently returned to Malta to take up a post as consultant orthopaedic and spinal surgeon at Mater Dei Hospital.

Mr Borg graduated in Malta in 1991 and transferred to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London, in 1998. He entered the North Thames Training Rotation, working mainly at the Royal National Orthopaedic and at the University College Hospital London as well as Great Ormond Street, Queens Square Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Whittington Hospital, among others, where he was trained in all aspects of orthopaedic and spinal surgery.

In 2004, he was awarded the National AO Spinal Fellowship and transferred to Denver, Colorado, US, where he worked with Mike Janseen, chairman of AO Spine. On returning to Europe he worked with Prof. Juergen Harms at the Spine Unit in Karlsbad/Heidelberg, Germany.

In 2005, he was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and was appointed consultant orthopaedic and spinal surgeon at Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust in London.

He also worked in the private sector, mostly at the Kings Oak and the Nuffield Hospital in north London as well as St John’s and St Elizabeth and Harley Street in central London.

Since 2009, his name has been included in the ‘Marquis Who’s Who in The World List’.

In London, he devoted time to the treatment of patients needing joint replacements and patients with spinal disorders, including sciatica, low back pain, infections, spinal tumours and spinal fractures – including osteoporotic spinal fractures.

He remains actively involved in clinical education, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and was trainer for the Royal College of Surgeons, mentoring, assessing and certifying London orthopaedic trainees.
