Mgr Arthur Said Pullicino’s homily at the opening of the forensic year was criticised by Fr Joe Borg (The Sunday Times, October 10), who wrote that it “reveals a theology which is passé”.

Fr Borg should remember that the theology of the past was the theology used and written by countless saints, yet it’s too old for his liberal tastes. What has his modern theology given us if not confusion? Why should priests have different opinions?

US Archbishop John Fulton Sheen once said: “Years ago, when I met a priest in the street, I knew exactly what he believed, professed and thought, but today I am scared to even ask them what they believe.”

Fr Borg also said the monsignor’s comments are myopic, thus narrow-minded and lacking tolerance. Should a Catholic priest ever tolerate sin for whatever sake? Let alone for being open-minded! I can’t even believe a priest would utter such madness. Truly the words of the Virgin Mary of Garabandal are being fulfilled.

God’s mercy and love seems to be on everyone’s lips but our country is in for a rude awakening if we too continue to push God aside. Mgr Said Pullicino is a priest who is not ashamed to speak about sin and not ashamed to dress like a priest in public, which is more than can be said for some others.

I am not a theologian but the basic theology which I build my faith on is clear and there are several moral absolutes which can never be grey but are always black or white, and Mgr Said Pullicino together with Mgr Anton Gouder are the only ones who remind us that divorce is a sin, full stop.
