I refer to Frank Portelli’s version of the Catholic Church’s Catechism that “if civil divorce remains the only possible way… (it) does not constitute a moral offence” (October 12). I am afraid the civil divorce the Catechism is referring to here is not the divorce we are all talking about. The argument in CCC 2383 is separation, which, although still inadvisable, would, in certain situations, be tolerated.

This is not to say I am in agreement with what the Judicial Vicar said. Sin is the sole domain of the sinner.
