Obituary

CASSAR BORG. On October 12, at her residence in Sliema, ADELAIDE, née Aquilina (Eileen), widow of George, aged 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She leaves to mourn her loss her children May and her husband Walter Vigar, Monica and her husband Joe Sant, Marion, Pauline and her husband Alex Coppola, David and his wife Angela, Christine and her husband Charles Borg, her grandchildren and their spouses, great-grandchildren, her respective sisters, Doris and her husband Anthony, Carmen, Cecilia and her husband Andrew, and Anna and her husband William, Antoinette, widow of her brother Joe, nephews, nieces and friends. The funeral leaves her residence tomorrow at 9 a.m. for Sacro Cuor parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family vault at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations to St Joseph Institute, Sta Venera, will be appreciated. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for our mother with such dedication. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

MERCIECA. On October 12, ELEONORA, née Giunta, aged 87, widow of Gerard Mercieca (Balbi Ltd), passed away peacefully at Mater Dei Hospital, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Mark and his wife Josephine, Mariella and her husband Carmel Piscopo, Alexander and his wife Kathryn, Paul and his wife Anna, Angela and her husband Joseph Pisani, her grandchildren Marcus and his wife Carla, Nicola’, Gerard, Daniel and Julia, her great-grandson Carlos, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 2.15 p.m. for St Paul Shipwrecked parish church, Valletta, followed by interment in the family vault at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

SAMMUT. On October 11, at his residence, CARMEL (Charles), ex-Customs Officer, of Birkirkara, residing in Naxxar, aged 56, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Louise, his children Francesca and Matthew, his sisters Nancy, Anna, Doris, Josephine and Rita, their spouses and their families, his brother-in-law Albert, uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for St Helen’s Basilica, Birkirkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Malta Hospice Movement, Balzan, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Requiem masses

Tomorrow being the 28th anniversary of the death of MARY M. D’AMATO, Masses said at St Augustine’s parish church, Valletta, will be offered for the repose of her soul. The attendance of relatives and friends will be appreciated.

BORG – JOHN. In loving memory of our dearest father on the 47th anniversary of his meeting with the Lord. His son Patrick, daughters Sr Johanna, Monica, Sr Valerie, Terry, in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kindly remember him in your prayers.

From 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. in parts of 31st March and Dun Karm Fenech streets, Zagħruna, Indipendence, Mattia Preti and Giuseppe Calí streets in Għargħur.

From 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. in 10th August, Ta’ Bieb il-Għar, Monsarrat Nicholas, Dun Salv Portelli and Wileġ streets in San Lawrenz.

Lost garden

A talk by Jo Tyndale Biscoe on John Hookham Frere’s Maltese Garden, organised by Din l-Art Ħelwa, will be held tomorrow at 6 p.m. at 133, Melita Street, Valletta. Ms Tyndale Biscoe will give her personal recollection of her grandparent’s beautiful garden in Pietà, captured in her book A Lost Maltese Garden – John Hookham Frere’s Masterpiece, which is illustrated with family photographs, memories and reminiscences.
