European Greens condemn lack of divorce possibility in Malta

With a unanimous vote of its 36 member parties, the European Green Party has condemned the lack of possibility of obtaining a divorce in Malta.

AD spokesperson on EU and international affairs Arnold Cassola said:

“The delegates of the European Green Party expressed their full support for Alternattiva Demokratika in our ceaseless efforts to end the discrimination against Maltese and EU residents in Malta who cannot re-marry after the failure of their marriage, due to the impossibility of obtaining a divorce in Malta.”

AD chairman Michael Briguglio said:

“It is clear that Malta's lack of divorce situation is untenable and will have to change in the near future.

“Together with the European Greens and with all European Green Parties, some of which are in government, AD will keep making pressure for the introduction of this basic civil right in Malta.”

He said that the Green Foundation Ceratonia and the Green European Foundation will be organising an international conference on divorce in Malta on October 23.

The Green Parties, who were meeting during a conference in Tallinn, also unanimously approved a motion on a moratorium on oil drillling in EU waters.

This motion was also proposed by AD and is of special interest to Malta given that BP will be drilling off Libya's coast.

Why do you keep mixing up Divorce with Abortion? The greatest threat to Democracy and the planet is unchecked human population growth, inching towards the 9 billion humans already (do not get me wrong, I do not advocate using abortion as birth control) but of the many ills befalling humanity, most if not all can be attributed to human over-population and things are going to get worse for future generations. However, I do believe that the human species has in inherent flaw (arrogance and rapaciousness) which will see it become extinct in a few hundred years unless the course is changed dramatically. And to be honest with religions seemingly fixated on sperm and foetuses as they are and their obsession to control women's reproductive capacities, and people like yourself who should know better, I do not see any hope or a different scenario. The age of the Dinosaurs lasted close to 62 million years - humans have not even notched up 1 million years yet according to the latest findings. Which is good, I think the earth and nature have had enough of this self-centred, overbearing and pompous primate that we call a human.

Agree with you Raymond Bezzina. The EU and the Greens do not want hunters and trappers to shoot and trap birds yet they support the murder of human beings through abortion.

Enough voters across the nation voted for Alternattiva to elect one MP if our electoral system was not unjust and monopolised by the PL-PN duopoly who have no interest in legislating the neccesary corrective amendments.

It was AN who disbanded last election.

The question you should ask is how many submissive voters decided not to vote for AD because of the fear tactics (waste your vote) used by the 2 other parties (Also a huge media media abuse IMO). Some people never learn.

Eric Gahn we do not have one general election of all Malta but a general election in every electoral district so you cannot count all Malta's votes to elect a candidate.

Happens Malta signed up for EU guidelines. You either play along or chicken out.

Isn't that a purely military anachronistic organisation?

" Malta should decide its own rules." Malta gave up those rights when Malta voted to become part of the EU. Can't have the cake and eat it too. I do believe some EU rules supersede Maltese rules, correct me if I'm wrong. We are all Maltese Citizens and that makes us all EU Citizens.

What J. Farrugia is trying to say, I suppose, is that we have more than enough of them [wrongs] already.

So perhaps it is better to do nothing and not take any chances.

"Two wrongs doesn't make one right"

I'd rather a couple divorced than having a family forced live "together" against all parties' will and all the collateral damage it would cause....that makes two wrongs...as opposed to "one"; divorce.

I'm pretty sure the Church also sees soldiers (aka merciless killers) as sinners...never mind having had several personal armies for decades.

Oh the irony fanaticism brings!
