The executive committee of the GWU Youths was very touched while attending the ceremony held in honour of Vincent Esposito’s career as a trade unionist. Mr Esposito was one of the General Workers’ Union’s pioneers.

Though 85 years old, he had the energy to deliver a great speech. He emphasised the importance of unity among workers and argued (rightly so) that this can reap fruit for the workers. At the same occasion, secretary general Tony Zarb told the audience the state should honour Mr Esposito because his involvement in trade unionism was not only beneficial to workers but also for the common good of the country.

GWU Youths think such proposal should not go unnoticed. Hence, firstly we would like to show our gratitude to Mr Esposito for all the sacrifices and hardships he did and experienced in order to be an effective trade unionist. And, secondly, we would like the President to consider Mr Esposito as a prospective member of the Order of Merit.

People like “Ċensu” are an inspiration for all those who believe in social justice and economic democracy.
