Hibs Medsea, the reigning champions, and Luxol maintained their perfect record in the Women’s League after comfortable victories over Athleta and Starlites Sports Experience respectively.
Depiro McDonald’s had the better of Loyola and St Andrew’s toppled newcomers Guzel Pinar Mtarfa.
Hibs began to pull away from Athleta in the early stages of the second quarter, opening a 37-23 lead at half-time. With Athleta unable to raise their game, Hibs cruised to a comprehensive 74-35 victory.
Luxol, strong contenders for the title this season, also found it easy to see off the Starlites’ challenge. The result was never in doubt after Luxol potted the first 18 points.
After leading 33-17 at half-time, Luxol continued to press forward for a clear 76-27 victory.
Depiro returned to winning ways by beating Loyola 78-46. Antoinette Borg and Kaila Agius were prominent in the opening two sessions as Depiro led 36-14 at half-time. Loyola’s best patch came in the final quarter but it was too late as Depiro had long made sure of the points.
St Andrew’s were the better team in the first quarter but Mtarfa improved to win the second session and reduce the gap to seven points, 21-14. The Saints showed their true potential after the interval, leaving very little space for their opponents to manoeuvre on way to winning the match 42-22.
